Absent Me- Self Portrait

Untitled

I will start with famous quote from Ansel Adams, who states that even in an image visibly devoid ofhuman beings “…there are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.”

My project Absent Me – Self Portrait, is about a little study into psychology of presence and absence. I took all my images in order to identify with the hidden qualities of my character, to understand my reality and the world I live in. A clearer understanding of myself and my surroundings allows me to explore aspects of self-portrait photography I was unaware of before. What I create through the viewfinder is only real to me.  My personal belongings are everyday objects I use and cannot live without, therefore they pretty much represent me, my taste and style and perhaps my personality. The presence is created by the existence of the photograph, and in the time and effort taken by the photographer to share that image with others, as well as the time the viewer takes to observe it. My work aims at the point where a photo is taken and an image emerges.

Creative pjct.

Great news! I have completed my creative project and as promised I am publishing it. First thing of all I’d would like to point out that I enjoy taking pictures on daily basis using my phone, some of you may have noticed that already as I tend to post my random stuff on social networking sites. I like taking those kind of pictures but sometimes I feel that they lack of something, that something being a text. Not the quotes, but my own text.  So I have decided to combine my images with text. My biggest influence for this project is  David Shrigley. Also I think it’s important to point out that if I didn’t use the text with my images you’d think of them as boring and dull, or you’ll be left to make your own caption. For me text plays vital role in this case, it’s humorous and interesting. The font also is designed accordingly to each image, paint looking font on the fence, chalk looking one on the wall and so on. On four of the images I have decided to put simple white letters to make the image look more sophisticated. The technique I have used is well known to most of you, and it’s called Instagram. I have not only chose Instagram because I can apply fancy filter to my images but also because of the square shape. I hope you enjoy looking at them, and don’t hesitate with any comments or feedback you may have.

Not so ordinary holiday snaps.

Here are just a few of my big collection of shots I took while on holiday in Majorca this July. Despite the enormous amount of tourists I have managed to find some ‘lonely’ places. Hope you’ll enjoy looking at them.
